A Day And A Night In Sanur, Bali: The Tandjung Sari Hotel

I was in Bali recently. And instead of overnighting at the usual places such as Ubud, Seminyak, and Jimbaran, I spent a few days in Sanur and I stayed at the Tandjung Sari Hotel. It has been years since I last visited that area. And my first impression was that Sanur absolutely has changed a lot and is so much more developed and exciting now. It somewhat reminded me of Seminyak.

The Tandjung Sari Hotel is located in the heart of Sanur. There are many shops, restaurants, cafes, and bars in walking distance of the hotel, yet far enough to avoid the noises of the hustle and bustle of the Sanur’s nightlife (well, for the most part, because during the first night here I did wake up from the deep bass of a nearby techno club). There is a boulevard lane at the back of the hotel that runs along the many resorts and restaurants that are located on the beach. It’s a great place to take a long walk as well.

The hotel is situated right on the beach and the sand in front of the resort is exclusively for hotel guests, so it will never be too crowded there. There are some touts that will pass by if you relax on the beach, but not so many that it will become frustrating. The sea in front of the hotel is swimmable and quite calm, although the large amounts of watersports activities make it not so comfortable. Personally, I didn’t like hearing jet ski’s racing by while I was swimming or chilling in the water. It made me a bit anxious and nervous. Still, it is a safe place to swim if you remain near the shore.

The one thing that the hotel could improve is its swimming pool location, which is right besides the restaurant. It’s not very comfortable to swim there; as you’ll be too close to the customers and the customers will be close to you. It is kind of weird. There should be some more space between the two and you’ll notice that the pool will remain mostly unused by other guests exactly for this reason.

The food in the Tandjung Sari hotel, in particular the breakfast menu, was some of the best “hotel food” I’ve had in Indonesia so far. It was quite delicious and the menu is varied and different. There are Indonesian and Western breakfast items available, and the bread is baked fresh on a daily basis. We had eggs benedict, mie goreng (fried noodles), and a selection of fresh breads such as Danishes and French croissants. Breakfast time is really something you can look forward to here and it is such a difference from the usual hotel breakfasts that most of us have experienced so many times. You can have your breakfast on the patio of the restaurant while looking at the calm sea in the morning. It’s quite peaceful and relaxing.

So, in short, I very much enjoyed my stay here in this hotel. The room we had was spacious, well maintained, and provided all the necessary items and facilities to make our stay memorable and relaxing. The room had a (giant) relaxing bath and a soothing outdoor shower in a little walled garden. The Tandjung Sari is a really fine hotel if you’re looking for a place to stay in Sanur. The hotel is in a great location, the service and facilities are mostly excellent, and the food is delicious and yummy. What’s not to like?
